‘Adoption of Yoruba language will boost academic performance’

The Lagos State government has expressed optimism that the implementation of the Yoruba language preservation and promotion law would improve academic performance in the state.
   
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs Adebunmi Adekanye who disclosed this at this year’s ‘Commonwealth Day celebration’ held at Oregun Senior High School said the development would help in the student’s assimilation of lessons and invariably improve the overall performance of the sector.
   
Adekanye said: “I am impressed by the various activities you have put up to drive home the theme of the celebration-“Towards a common goal’, the drama, dance drama, coral, cultural dance and unity dance shows your ability at comprehension and dissemination of information.
   
“I see you playing tremendous role in the propagation and implementation of the Yoruba Preservation and Promotion Law of the government. It is expected that all pupils and students will in no distant time know by heart and render the Yoruba version of the first and second stanza of the National Anthem and the pledge.
   
“There is no gainsaying that all the developed nations of the world were those who taught their children in their mother tongue”.
