Administrator tasks schools on extracurricular activities for develpment

Director, Bijamic Private Nursery and primary school, Badore Lagos, Mrs. Chinyere Jane Abiola has advised education stakeholders across the country to discover and hone pupils’ skills through extracurricular activities, saying this would assist them to develop academically and live a healthy lifestyle.

Abiola who spoke at a sporting event for the pupils titled, “Total growth,” the school administrator said with the right environment, talented pupils have the opportunity of showcasing their talents and potentials early in life.

She pointed out that teaching and learning should not be restricted to only the classrooms, adding that sporting activities would help in building a sound character and life skills that will aid the young ones to navigate challenges in life.

She urged education managers to provide facilities and create time during and after-school for pupils to explore their talents through indoor and outdoor sporting activities, stressing that the future benefits are more.

Abiola added that her school regularly exposes her pupils to some of these activities, including dancing, music, art and crafts, as well as sporting activities such as football, basketball, as well as track and field events.

In a chat with The Guardian, Abiola stated that sporting activities is key for the total wellbeing of the child.

“When combined with academics, it produces a sound, balanced and well- rounded citizens in a society.
