ABTU set to hold combined convocation Jan., 23

All is now set for the combined convocation ceremony of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ABTU) Bauchi State.

Vice chancellor of the institution, Prof Saminu Abdulrahman Ibrahim, who stated this during the pre-convocation briefing, said the convocation ceremony was delayed due to insecurity in the North East.

Scheduled for January 23, Ibrahim said the combined convocation ceremony would feature four sets of graduands of the institutions from 2011/2012 academic session to 2014/2015.

He said a total of 7, 688 graduands, consisting of 845 diploma holders; 5, 554 first degrees; 1, 219 postgraduate/masters and 64 PhDs, would receive certificates and prizes in their various disciplines.

Secretary to the Adamawa State government and the immediate past Director General, National Office of Technology Acquisition and Promotions (NOTAP), Dr. Umar Buba Bindir, would deliver the convocation lecture.

The vice chancellor said Bindir would speak on the topic. “Development Qualities, Human Capital as a Critical Mass in Nigeria’s Quest for Global Rating.”

The new chancellor of the institution, Ewi of Ado-Ekiti and chairman of Ekiti State Council of Obas, Oba Dr. Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe Aladesanmi III, will be awarded honorary doctorate degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) at the event.

He informed that the school has improved its quality of staff in order to meet up with the contemporary standard saying, “Over 40 academic staff members have been sent to acquire PhD degrees across the globe and many more are pursuing their masters programmes to complement our local efforts,” he said.

Dignitaries expected at the ceremony, include President Muhammadu Buhari; Executive Secretary Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Prof. Suleiman Elias Bogoro; former vice chancellor of the institution, Prof Buba Bajoga, Minister of Education, Mr. Adamu Adamu, among others.
