Abia PDP chairman, secretary under attack for cancelling primary results

Some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirants in the scheduled Abia state local government election and some stakeholders have rejected the cancellation of the result of the party’s Ward primary.

Besides, the party chairman and secretary have come under attack by the aspirants for what they described as poor handling on the part of the officials.

The aspirants were particularly bitter with the cancellation of the Osisioma Ngwa LGA as announced by the State Chairman and Secretary, Chiefs Johnson Onuigbo and Ibe Nwadioha respectively.

Five PDP aspirants for the Chairmanship of the Osisioma Ngwa council, Dr. Ikechukwu Nwabeke , Iheyinna Mgbeahuru, Sunday Innah, Emeka Eneogwe and Mike Inyama and Mr. Joseph Ohaja for other stakeholders addressed the journalists to register their disapproval.

They protested against the unilateral cancellation of the primary result which conduct they described as free and fair stressing that none of the aspirants filed any protest against the conduct and results.

They said that the cancellation of the primary did not also follow due process as stipulated by the party guidelines that protest should be lodged with an Appeal Committee duly set up by the state party.

However while the Appeal Committee was being expected to be inaugurated at the party office in Umuahia, some PDP members from the said Osisioma Ngwa carrying placards have besieged the party office to protest the cancellation.

The protesting aspirants, who accused the state leadership of canceling the primary to favor one of the aspirants, urged the leadership to reverse the cancellation.

They warned that if it was not reversed, they would not allow another primary to be held in the local government area.

But reacting to the protest and the request by the aspirants, the state Chairman said that the conduct of the primary was not transparent hence its cancellation for a repeat at a future date.

He called on the protesters to be peaceful and law abiding as the party was determined to ensure that no one was shortchanged.
