Ex-UNN VC urges Nigerians to use made-in-Nigeria products, services

Ozumba

Former Vice Chancellor, University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Prof. Benjamin Ozumba, has urged Nigerians and the three tiers of government to use Nigerian products and services.

Ozumba made the appeal, yesterday, at a press briefing, which was part of activities to mark his retirement from the university, as well as his 70th birthday anniversary.

He said that using locally made goods and services would boost the economy of the country.

Ozumba said that during his tenure as UNN’s VC, the university established a science park known as Lion Science Park, noting that the park was the first in the country.

According to him, a series of innovations are being exhibited in the park, but they are recording poor patronage from governments and individuals.

Ozumba, a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, said that the science park could produce more than the number of tractors that the Federal Government required for agriculture.

He also said that the park could produce laptops for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) within an agreed time.

He said: “I am happy that Innoson has established a tractor manufacturing plant there.

“We built waste-to-energy first, before Geometric Energy in Aba.”

Ozumba said that the Federal Government needed more than 80,000 tractors for agriculture.
