Maltina Teacher of the Year’ competition

• Star prize now N10m

Entries have opened for the 10th Nigeria Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund‘s Maltina Teacher of the Year competition.

Prizes for winners across all cadres have also been jerked up as the overall winner will take home N10 million, among other prizes.

Entries for the competition opened on May 16 and will close on July 19. The competition has remained a platform to appreciate and reward teachers for their contribution to the development of the education sector in Nigeria, while inspiring excellence in teaching.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Managing Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Hans Essaadi, said the company, through the Felix-Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, remained unwavering in its commitment to supporting teachers in shaping future leaders and changing the lives of students for the better.

Essaadi, who was represented by the Human Resource Director, Grace Omo-Lamai, said the programme is an opportunity to show gratitude to teachers for the sacrifices, extra hours they invest, and the guidance and mentorship they provide to ensure the success of the youths.

Essaadi said: “Through this competition, we aim to recognise the efforts of teachers in the countless ways they have shaped our future. We acknowledge their selflessness, passion for teaching, and relentless pursuit of the growth and development of our nation.”

He noted that other corporate organisations have joined the initiative. According to him, Union Bank of Nigeria and Woodhall Capital Foundation have been enlisted as main partners, while First City Monument Bank (FCMB) and Alert Group are supporting partners for the competition.

The Corporate Affairs Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Sade Morgan, said the competition remained a veritable platform to reward and inspire teachers for their contribution to education development.

Morgan disclosed that the overall winner for this year’s competition would receive a trophy, a total cash prize of N10 million, and a capacity development training opportunity abroad, while the school receives either a block of classrooms or a computer laboratory.

“The first and second runners-up will receive N3,000,000 and N2.5 million cash respectively. All state champions will be rewarded with recognition plaques and N1,000,000 each,” she added.

In her remarks, the winner of last year’s edition, Adeola Adefemi, said the success has become a confidence booster and attraction to several global opportunities in the teaching profession.
