NSCDC nabs oil vandals in Delta

TWO trailers fully loaded with illegal oil and diesel have been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Delta State.

  The Delta State Commandant of NSDC, Adesuyi Clement, who disclosed this recently said that eight persons -Salisu Mohammed, Adamu Seidu, Sylvester Irabor and five others were currently being detained by the corps.

  Clement, who paraded the suspected vandals in Asaba yesterday said that Mohammed, 26, a native of Yobe State was the driver of the ill-fated lorry marked KANO XA 611 KUR which was filled with 125 drums of the condensate while neighbouring Edo State born Irabor, 28 was the driver of the second trailer which was loaded with 33,000 litres of diesel.

  He said that command will not relent in its crusade against vandalism which he insisted has been destroying the economy of the state and the nation at large.

  He lamented that the activities of the criminals have been bringing the economy down, appealing to the residents and lovers of Nigeria to provide updated information to the command in order for the state and country to position itself in the rightful place just as he assured the informants of protection.

  Adesuyi said that they were apprehended as a result of the intelligence network of the corps who were in the bush for two days trailing the criminals and their activities, thanking the military and other paramilitary organizations for their collaboration to track down the criminals.

  The Commandant added that the NSDC continue with its investigation to know their sponsors and would charge them to court after thorough investigation.

 Irabor confessed to the crime, saying that that the diesel was loaded from the waterside and that they were heading to Nigercat while Mohammmed denied knowledge of the name of the place where they took off from but however admitted that they were on their way to Kano when they were apprehended.
