Group chides BEDC over alleged poor electricity supply in Delta community

Members of a socio-cultural and non-political organization based in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State ‘Otu Nmu Ebon’ have chided the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) over its alleged poor electricity supply to residents in the area.

In a letter addressed to the Executive Director of BEDC, titled: “Failure to supply Electricity to Agbor”, a copy of which was made available to The Guardian, the association, through its solicitor, Barr. Emmanuel Ebomah, alleged that since BEDC took over the responsibility to supply electricity to Agbor, the power situation in the area has worsened.

“Since you (BEDC) took over the responsibility to supply electricity to Agbor, the area has witnessed wicked epileptic power supply and total blackout without any reasonable explanation by your company to people,” members of the association further alleged in the statement.

While saying that outrageous electricity bills occasioned by estimated bill regime was totally unacceptable to Agbor people, they (members of the association) harped on the need for meters in consumers houses to read, adding that BEDC should in the alternative, provide prepaid meters to electricity consumers in the area, even as they said that estimated billing regime should be stopped immediately.

“Agbor people demand improved Power supply from your company (BEDC), otherwise, we will be compelled to institute a legal action against your company in the law court,” members of the association added in the letter.

But in swift reaction, the Public Relations Manager, BEDC, Mrs. Esther Okolie dismissed all allegations against BEDC, saying that the company was working hard to ensure power supply to customers to owing and called on the association to join hand with BEDC to ensure a huge success of power supply to the area.
