Burdened by the inadequate electricity supply to households in Nigeria, an indigenous oil firm, has commissioned off-grid power solutions in Nigeria.

Speaking at the launch in Lagos, the Group Chief Executive Officer, Forte Oil, Akin Akinfemiwa, said the company’s green energy solution will assist the Federal Government’s efforts in providing uninterrupted electricity to households in the country.
Akinfemiwa said: “The FO solar is out to complement the Federal Government’s power reform, which is aimed at achieving uninterrupted power supply in the country. Once there is stable power supply, the multiplier effect on the economy is enormous.

“Besides the fact that it brings down the cost of goods and services, consumers conserve more money, which is diverted to other areas of the economy. This will lead to the rise in the nation’s GDP. We also see it as something that supports the economy in terms of poverty alleviation.”

He added: “Our solar is mobile, very efficient. It is made up of panel system, customised batteries. This is the solution that meets the needs of the medium-income group who have for so long relied on generators for their energy needs, pending the time the nation is able to solve its power supply problem.”

The Group Chief Financial Officer, Forte Oil, Julius Omodayo-Owotuga, explained that the solar energy solution comes with four panels, four 100 amps and 12 volts batteries with free installations.

Omodayo-Owotuga said the 1.5 KVA solar panel, which costs about N1.5 million in the market was given out at the cost N700,000 per unit to wholesalers, which also attracts discounts depending on the number of units purchased.According to him, the product has a year warranty, while the panels have 4-5 years lifespan. It also lasts for 12 hours depending on equipment used for.

“It was designed for Nigeria atmosphere with quality materials, targeted at the low and medium income earners in the society, to address the challenges faced with pollution from generating sets.

“We are partnering with various housing estate management, house builders, and accredited engineers to assist in eradicating power challenges in Nigeria through renewable energy,’’ he said.

The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources in Lagos State,  Olawale Oluwo, said: “this partnership comes at a time when Lagos Government is targeting 3,000MW off-grid and independent of Niger Delta gas.

Oluwo said the solar project complements it the State Government’s efforts to light Lagos through solar energy, and assured of the governor’s full support.

“We will key into the solar energy solution by Forte Oil which is very vital to our program and now that Forte Oil has put its brand to solar, we are now sure that we have a reliable partner in solar energy,” he said.
