Economic Hardship: Share tithes, proceeds with the needy, cleric tells religious leaders

Adewale Giwa

The Senior Pastor of Awaiting the Second Coming of Christ Ministry, Pastor Adewale Giwa, has urged religious leaders in the country to adopt the practice of allocating a portion of tithes and church offerings to support the less privileged within their congregation.

The cleric, who gave the advice while featuring on a radio programme in Akure, Ondo State capital, emphasised the need for providing for the poor and needy amid the economic hardship in the country.

According to him, the ongoing controversy surrounding the issue of tithing is unnecessary and has arisen due to the actions of some prominent religious figures in the country.

“The controversy over the issue of tithes is unnecessary. It is happening now because some of the big-time servants of God have betrayed the gospel and their calling.

“When you see Deuteronomy 14:28–29, it itemises four people that tithe are meant for. The Levites, foreigners, widows, and the fatherless. So, it is not only pastors who own tithes.

Giwa attributed the hardships faced by Nigerians to President Bola Tinubu’s removal of fuel subsidy.

He urged manufacturers and traders to cease hiking the price of commodities in order to alleviate the suffering of the people.

On the security threats plaguing the country, the clergyman stated that the inadequate road network throughout the country is fueling insecurity, hindering development, and complicating life for Nigerians.
