In a statement issued yesterday in Abakaliki by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Francis Nwaze, the governor said the succour, which includes food items, clothing and cash, should be made available only to mothers, adult males, and females, as well as men that are above 60 years.

Umahi appealed to the fleeing indigenes to return, adding that adequate security had been put in place.

The Ebonyi helmsman equally approved a permanent military checkpoint in Effium community to protect the people.

He said the government officials arrested in connection with the mayhem would remain legally detained until normalcy returns, assuring the people that those found culpable will be charged for murder.

Reiterating that his administration remained open to constructive criticisms in deference to democratic tenets, the governor, however, counselled against unguarded and inciting remarks, especially security issues.

He stated that purveyors of unfounded speculations, slanderers, and defamers would be challenged in court to strengthen the civil rule.
