Don Lemon Departs CNN with $24.5 Million Settlement

Don Lemon, a prominent news anchor known for his primetime program “CNN Tonight,” has officially departed from CNN after receiving a settlement payment of $24.5 million.

Lemon has made his mark as an American television journalist. His journey began with anchoring weekend news programs on local television stations in Alabama and Pennsylvania. However, it was his time at CNN that truly solidified his place in the media landscape.

Lemon co-hosted CNN’s morning show, This Morning, alongside Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins. His engaging style and thought-provoking interviews made him a household name. But controversy followed him as well.

In 2023, Lemon faced backlash for comments he made about Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley. He referred to her as not being “in her prime,” a remark widely criticized as sexist. Despite issuing an apology and undergoing mandatory training, the damage was done.

In April, Don Lemon announced his departure from CNN on X [formerly called Twitter]. He said: “I was informed this morning by my agent I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned.”

However, CNN’s official response contradicted his account, claiming that he was offered a meeting to discuss the situation but chose to publicly declare his termination instead. They disputed the accuracy of his statement about being fired.

The $24.5 million settlement reflects Lemon’s long-standing presence at CNN and his established role within the network. He joined CNN in 2007, quickly rising to prominence as a news anchor and program host.

Throughout his career at CNN, Lemon covered major breaking news events, conducted high-profile interviews, and established himself as a recognizable figure within the cable news landscape.

With the settlement finalized, Lemon closes his 17-year chapter at CNN.
