• Backs Ogah for position
For national integration, unity, equity, justice, fairness, national prosperity and multi-ethnic diversity of Nigeria, Coalition Of Nigerian Professionals In The Diaspora, yesterday, called for the Deputy Speaker position in the House of Representatives to be zoned to the South East.
In a statement signed by its President, Dr. George Monday, and Secretary, Dr. Joy Ogbugo, in Abakaliki, the group said that after carefully examining current political dispensation, including the incoming administration to be led by Bola Tinubu, it would be only fair to zone the Deputy Speaker position to the South East to foster development and integration.
The group, while congratulating Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, as well as the All Progressives Congress (APC) on their victory at the February 25, 2023, presidential election, thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their bravery and diligence in the conduct of the general elections.
It further noted that after checking the competence, character, trustworthiness, capabilities, experience, expertise and honestly of all National Assembly members elected from South East, Chinedu Ogah, member, House of Representative for Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, stands most competent to be considered for the position.
According to the group, Ogah has both academic and leadership qualities to lead the next House of Representatives as Deputy Speaker.
The group said: “Ogah has remained one of the most influential supporters of APC government in South East, and has demonstrated leadership in both private and public sectors.
“He has acquired extensive legislative experience through participation in various international legislative leadership-training programmes across the world.
“Ogah has the international connection to drive Nigerian professionals in the Diaspora and other foreign economic development experts into coming to invest in Nigeria in support of the country’s socio-economic development.”
The coalition of Nigerian Professionals in the Diaspora comprises Nigerians resident in the United Kingdom (UK), United States of America (USA), Canada, Australia, China, India, Austria, Mexico, Ghana, Egypt, South Africa, Turkey, France, Germany, Brazil, Iceland, New Zealand, Morocco, Indonesia, Kenya, Zambia, and Colombia.
