Delta Queens dethrone Bayelsa Queens as NWFL champions

Delta Queens, yesterday, defeated Bayelsa Queens at the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Super Six play-off to become 2022/23 NWFL champions.

Bayelsa Queens came into the game as defending champions and Africa’s third best women football club, but in Delta Queens they met a team desirous of rubbing shoulders with Africa’s best next season.


Bayelsa Queens had beaten Rivers Angels in their last game with national U-20 (Falconets) forward, Sebastian Flourish’s return to the team adding more fillip to their campaign in the competition held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

Bayelsa Queens went into the lead in the 14th minute off Chisom Henry’s first half own goal.

Delta Queens came into the second half stronger, with their midfielders combining better with attackers. And the equaliser soon arrived with Chinaza Agoh scoring an acrobatic goal in the 67th minute.

Agoh completed her brace and sealed the game in the 86th minute of the game to crown Delta Queens new champions of the women’s game.

Apart from the N10 million prize money, Delta Queens won the ticket to represent Nigeria at the WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifier.
