UN trains 35 AVSEC officers on counter-terrorism

No fewer than 35 Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers have completed training in counter-terrorism, to enhance safety of lives and properties at airports nationwide.

The four-month ‘train the trainer course 19’ exercise was organised by Redline Assured Security, United Kingdom, in partnership with the United Nations.

Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, at the graduation ceremony held in Abuja recently, expressed a deep sense of fulfillment with the exercise.

Apparently impressed, Sirika said he would continue to do everything within his powers to encourage and promote knowledge development in every facet of the industry.

He also promised to empower the graduands in every way legally possible, including equipping them with light arms.

Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Saleh Dunoma, reiterated that human capacity development is the best way to meet the highest standards of professionalism and best industry practices, coupled with continuous training and retraining of its members of staff in line with provisions of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

Dunoma admonished the graduating officers to efficiently apply acquired knowledge and make a personal commitment to excel in their chosen careers, adding that this career path is crucial especially because it boarders around safety and security of lives and properties.

United Nations Resident Coordinator, Ad Interim, Mohammed Fall, commended the Government of Nigeria for her significant effort in improving Aviation Security in the current context of the country.

Fall added that the training would boost global confidence, especially in doing business with the country.
