NSE’s All-share index slides by 2.1 per cent

EQUITY transactions on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) continued on a downward note yesterday, occasioned by price losses incurred by most blue chip companies, as market capitalization yesterday depreciated by 2.1 per cent.

Specifically, the NSE All Share Index fell by 766.55 basis points or 2.1 per cent against 34941.79 traded traded on Tuesday. Also the market capitalisation of the listed depreciated by N260 billion to N11.607 trillion from N11.867 trillion recorded the previous day.

A breakdown of the investment showed that ‎ Nestle Nigeria Plc led gainers table during the day, improving by N20.02 kobo to close at N1000.03 kobo, AG Leventis appreciated N0.12 kobo to close at N1.36 kobo, National Salt Company of Nigeria (NASCON) also increased by N0.10 kobo to close at N7.90 kobo while Champion Breweries grew by N0.10 kobo to close at N8.21 kobo and Costain West Africa Plc gained N0.06 kobo to close at N0.82 kobo.

On the contrary, Seplat Product Development topped losers chart for the day dropping by N20.03 kobo to close at N380.68 kobo, Mobil Nigeria Plc trailed with a loss of N8.50 kobo to close at N161.50 kobo while Nigerian Breweries dropped by N8.00 to close at N152.00.

Other companies that recorded price depreciation were Lafarge Wapco and Dangote Cement, which dipped by N4.85 kobo and N1.99 kobo respectively to close at N88.35 kobo and N178.01 kobo.

Further analysis for trading indicated that ‎ Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) Plc recorded highest volume of activities during the day, trading 133.421 million shares worth N444.311 million, Standard Trust Assurance traded 106.377 million shares valued at N53.188 million, FBN Holdings sold 65.555 million shares worth N567.242 million.

Access Bank Plc exchanged 61.745 million shares valued at N401.048 million and United Bank for Africa sold a total of 53.549 million shares cost N239.521million
