NSE records N17.9 billion in equities’ transactions

Nigeria stock exchangeA turnover of 1.366 billion shares worth N17.953 billion was recorded in 17,391 deals on the floor of the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) last week.

This volume of shares traded was however, lower than a total of 1.727 billion units valued at N23.389 billion that changed hands in 15,043 deals during the preceding week.

The financial services industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 837.735 million shares valued at N7.369 billion traded in 9,923 deals; thus contributing 61.32per cent and 41.04 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

The oil & gas industry followed with a turnover of 200.367million shares worth N3.367 billion in 1,444 deals.    The third place was occupied by ICT Industry with 115.888 million shares worth N59.517 million in 133 deals.

Trading in the top three equities namely – Access Bank Plc.; Oando Plc., and Zenith International Bank Plc. (measured by volume) accounted for 541.496 million shares worth N6.477 billion in 3,498 deals, contributing 39.63 per cent and 36.08 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

Also traded during the week were a total of 26,580 units of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) valued at N1.719 million executed in 24 deals compared with a total of 1,703 units valued at N540,319.29 transacted last week in 15 deals.

There was no activity recorded in the debt board this week. However, 1000 units of FGN Bonds valued at N1.080 million was transacted last week in one deal.

The NSE All-share Index and market capitalisation depreciated by 2.93 per cent to close on Friday at 30,180.27 and N10.345 trillion respectively.

Similarly, all the Indices finished lower during the week, with the exception of Industrial Goods and ASeM Indices that closed higher.

16 equities appreciated in price during the week, lower than 28  equities of the preceding week. 55 equities depreciated in price, higher than 44 equities of the preceding week, while 119 equities remained unchanged, higher than 118 equities recorded in the preceding week.

Additional 1,000,000 units of Vetiva Griffen 30 ETF were issued to trade at the Exchange on July 31, 2015 by the fund manager.

By this action, the total outstanding units of the ETF now stood at 150,400,000 units.
