The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has lifted the suspension on four shipping companies in the maritime sector.

The companies’ operations were earlier suspended following their failure to comply with the directive of acquiring and operating holding bays for their containers.

Assistant General Manager, Corporate & Strategic Communication, Isah Suwaid, disclosed this yesterday.

He said the affected shipping companies have now been given two weeks, beginning from Friday July 20 2018, to comply with some conditions to ensure a sustainable relationship.

Among the conditions are that they must increase the capacity of their holding bays from 1,800 TEUs to 7,500 TEUS.

They were told to also sign-off on the volume capacity of the holding bays verified at the end of the grace period, and at the expiration of which an inspection would be conducted to ascertain their compliance.

He said the NPA would not hesitate to order fresh sanctions against the firms, if they fail to meet the stipulated conditions.
