Space technologyDR. Dan-Azumi Ibrahim, acting director general of the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), has called for closer partnership with the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) to promote rapid technological development in Nigeria.

He made the call when he led a delegation of NOTAP Management on a working visit to the headquarters of the Council in Abuja.

Ibrahim stated that NOTAP plays a pivotal role in the development of Science, Technology and Innovation through its programmes and projects that are geared towards demystifying Science and Technology in the country.

He said NOTAP through the registration of Technology Transfer Agreements and subsequent monitoring of the implementation of such agreements noticed a huge gap between the Industry and Academia. He said this gap was instrumental to the over consumption of foreign technologies in the country instead of developing indigenous technologies.

Dr. Ibrahim stressed the importance of the mandates of the two agencies to national development and called for stronger collaboration to transform inventions and innovations into finished products. This, he emphasized, will launch Nigeria into the comity of industrialized nations of the world instead of being a spectator.

Earlier, while receiving the NOTAP team, Dr. Hussaini Doko Ibrahim director general of RMRDC expressed happiness that a former Staff of the Council is now visiting as a Chief Executive of a sister agency.

He said the visit was very timely especially considering the importance of the two agencies in the development of the Science and Technology sector which is the main engine that steers development of every nation.
