The Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) Nigeria said it would reach out to institutions where individual capacities enhancement and girl-child education are promoted.

Besides, the financial institution with South Africa-based parent company said it would sustain programmes that are in line with its tradition of supporting its host communities along its footprints.

The Managing Director of RMB Nigeria, Michael Larbie, gave the indication at the official handover of upgraded facilities and laboratory equipments at Aunty Ayo Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Lagos.

This is something we do in South Africa and Southern Africa and we want to continue to do it here in Nigeria. Being able to support the laboratory refurbishment, girl-child education and science is part of our corporate social investment strategy. Investing in science and education is very important for our young and upcoming generation.

We are taking one school after the other, not being all over the whole place at a time. Our target is to ensure that what we did here works, understand their curriculum, ensure the teachers are well qualified, provide equipments and continue to monitor the developments. It is not just about renovating the laboratory, put equipments and move away, but regularly visit to monitor developments.

According to him, the bank will follow up developments at least every quarter, bring in materials needed in their studies and have some of our executives volunteer to come here once in a quarter to teach the kids.
“The laboratory before now is not conductive for learning and our goal is contribute by providing right equipments to experiment and turn out good students at the end of the day.

We are going partner the school now. With time, we would do some case studies here and hopefully, we would put some prizes for outstanding science students.
“At a time, we may invite them to do some internship in the bank and provide opportunities for them. We hope to see about four of five students working in our learning offices and other companies that we can partner, like the pharmaceuticals, to ensure they do their internship there,” he said.

He also noted that the bank is also part of the financial inclusion project of the Central Bank of Nigeria and has been to Calabar to educate few schools there.
