Worried by the challenges facing fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies in Nigeria, manufacturers have been urged to adapt to the changing environment of the economy and develop strategies to overhaul the difficulties.

Speaking at the monthly members’ evening of the Institute of Directors Nigeria (IoD Nigeria) in Lagos, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Cadbury Nigeria Plc, Amir Shamsi, said companies must begin to think about innovating and renovating the entire value chain from inception to the final consumers.

Shamsi argued that manufacturers need to take external challenges to the background while embracing change with a view to scale up their operations and concentrate on bigger stories.

“We cannot change the external environment today; so we need to take the situation in hand on the chin. We must change our mindset and adapt to win in Nigeria”, Shamsi said.

Earlier in his remarks, Acting Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute, Mohammed Jumba, explained that the benefit of the event was to give members opportunity to learn how they can get the most value from their membership and to network with one another.

Jumba said the Institute exists to help give its members competitive advantage which can be achieved when members avail themselves of Institute events that are conceived to support them.
