The Nigerian Breweries (NB) in partnership with African Artists’ Foundation (AAF) has called for entries into the 9th edition of the National Arts Competition (NAC). The announcement was made on Thursday at a press conference held at NB office, Igamun, Lagos.

Open from August 25 to September 25, the entry will be in three parts: Call for entry, artistic retreat and the final exhibition, and announcement of winner.

Participants are required to send in entries in line with this year’s theme, Shifting Boundaries to www.nationalartcompetition.org.

Participants are also to send proposals only and not finished works. 12 best entries will be shortlisted to participate in the finals. Leading artists, scholars and art practitioners will facilitate the Artists’ retreat and workshop. The grand finale and judging ceremony will hold in December.

The first prizewinner would receive N2million and a solo exhibition, and N1million each for Outstanding Concept and Outstanding Production.

NB Corporate Affairs Adviser, Mr. Kufre Ekanem noted that the competition is one of his company’s platforms to sustainability agenda called, Brewing A Better World.

“We recognise that art plays an important role in strengthening cultural values in any society and this sponsorship remains part of a broad initiative to support art development in Nigeria,” he said.

Ekanem maintained that the competition places emphasis on the processes of artistic creation, rather than solely on the end product, adding that it is designed to support artists to develop ideas.

The Director of AAF, Mr. Azu Nwagbogu, said, “AAF is pleased with the partnership, as it shares the same vision with NB to nurture talents to positively impact the society.

According to Nwagbogu, “art has the ability to create social change, and we are concerned with global migration; the boundaries we need to redefine through poems, writing and anything artistic. We call on these talents to help us change the narratives.”
