FOR his role in promoting the entrepreneurial spirit of Nigerian youths, especially in the entertainment industry, Mr. Tonye Princewill, was recently appointed the Patron of Association of Movie Producers (AMP).

Announcing the appointment in Abuja, the National President of the apex body of movie producers in Nigeria, Mr. Ralph Nwadike, accompanied by the Vice President, Ms Chinasa Onyechere and the chairman of the Abuja Chapter of the association, Mrs Imaobong Abia, said the appointment was in view of the passion and commitment Tonye showed towards the upliftment of the industry in Nigeria.

“This appointment is done in recognition of the passion and commitment of this great Nigerian towards the activities of Nollywood and the entertainment industry in general.

“We are honoured to have him in our midst and we are willing to work with him in all fronts to actualize his numerous dreams of transforming the fortunes of practitioners in Nollywood.”

In response, Princewill, who played host to his guests at his Maitama residence in Abuja, appreciated them for coming and shared his thoughts with them.
“I wish to appreciate you all for coming and appointing me a patron of your association. Let it be known that I am not motivated by the title of a patron, but my vision for Nollywood is to ensure that practitioners are well rewarded.

“I want us to join hands devising a model that can guarantee a future for our practitioners. I hate where people work like elephants and feed like ants; it is not acceptable.

“We must turn around the fortunes of Nollywood for the better. The nation’s oil boom era is giving way, Nollywood should take over,” he stated.

Over the years, Mr. Princewill has made some huge investments in Nollywood that led to the production of the highly successful movie, Nnenda and another yet to be released ‘76, which has been billed for premiere before the end of the first quarter of this year.
