Financial upkeep in families, thrust of this week’s Prof Johnbull

The issue of footing family bills between husbands and wives is the theme of this week’s episode of Professor Johnbull, the television satire sponsored by Globacom.

In the episode entitled, ‘Breadwinner,’ the TV drama series uses the Peters family, as an exemplar of the hassles, heartaches and tension dogging the average Nigerian family in these hard times, which predispose families to share footing family expenses to stay afloat economically.

In the satire, Mrs. Peters happens to be the one shouldering the financial responsibilities of the family due to Mr. Peters being retrenched at his work place. Nigerians would be availed the knowledge and experience of the avuncular Professor Johnbull (Kanayo O. Kanayo) in his thesis on the topic and the unraveling of the plot as the scenes unfold.

Billed for broadcast at 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday on NTA Network, NTA international on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes, Breadwinner is a voyage in marriage counseling as the lead character in the series, Professor Johnbull, takes time to advise successful wives on proper behaviour whenever they find themselves as breadwinners in their families.

The omniscient academic posits that female breadwinners should not be overbearing, as what matters in a home is not who provides the ‘bread’ but the love, which exists between the man and the woman. He counsels women who are more successful than their husbands to treat them with dignity.

Breadwinner foregrounds posers like ‘should a woman earn more than the man?’ ‘Who should be the financial manager in the home?’ ‘Should a woman quit a high-paying job to please her husband?’ and ‘Why are men threatened by the level of success attained by their wives?’

Apart from Kanayo O. Kanayo, other acts who feature in series include the new entrants, Ndi (Angela Okorie), Jeroboam (Osita Iheme), Olaniyi (Yomi Fash-Lanso), Samson (Ogus Baba), Abadnego (Martins Nebo) and Jumoke (Bidemi Kosoko).
