Ono Bello, Dotun, Soma, Ketchup and a host of other favourite celebrities attended Amaros’ exhibition of art and photography, which held recently at Red Door Art Gallery, Victoria Island, Lagos, where Tunde Owolabi showcased the New Ethnik collection of aso-ofi fabrics woven into fashion accessories that are uniquely afro-centric and which draw inspiration from Yoruba culture of Nigeria and other African cultures. The fabrics tell the story of each culture to the world, through beautiful patterns and colours with critical attention to every detail in design and production process.

Among the array of exhibited photographs at the event, Owolabi pointed out the Amaros, which is the oldest building in Lagos has its inspiration coming from colonial architecture.

“The Amaros was inspired by colonial architecture. They are houses built by the returnees to Nigeria from Brazil and Cuba,” he said.

The photographs showcased the stylish buildings and reflected the lifestyle and identity of the returnees, which are translated by Owolabi with a modernist twist in his collection.
