Book on community policing for launch June 30

The challenges faced by residents of gated estates and communities will come under X-ray when a new book on the subject will be presented to the public by 11:30 in the morning on Wednesday, June 29, 2016.

Titled, Community Policing: Securing The Gated Community; Facts, Cases and Nuggets, the book will be launched at the prestigious Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, under the chairmanship of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Constitutional Lawyer and Human Rights giant, Mr. Femi Falana SAN.

According to a security expert and author of the book, Mr. Agodi Kanu, he was motivated to write the book as a result of his many years experience in consulting on security for gated communities all over the country especially in Lagos. In a release issued by the handlers of Mr. Kanu, the author revealed that most people are of the erroneous belief that living in a fenced and gated estate is the beginning and the end of insecurity but they fail to appreciate the numerous challenges that come with such an arrangement.

In his words: “There are enormous challenges associated with gated communities beginning from the entry and exit processes and procedures, the response in cases of emergencies like fire and other natural disasters, threats from neighboring communities, especially if those communities are not equally fenced or gated. Even in cases where they are fenced or gated, if they don’t have a robust security arrangement, such neighboring communities poses serious dangers to the one that has an enhanced security structure in place if not properly managed.

“Experience gathered from my many years of working with owners and residents of gated communities, from real life cases and interactions are captured in the book to provide guide and solutions to those facing security challenges in gated communities,” he declared.

Amongst those expected at the book presentation are the National Auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief George Moghalu who will be the Chief Presenter, the Minister of Interior, Lt. General Abdulrahman Dambazzau (rtd), Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonanya Onu, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, Chief of Naval Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ekwe Ibas, Major General Lawrence Anebi Onoja (rtd), Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and Engr. (Mazi) Nnamdi Udoh who are all Special Guests of Honour.
The book will be reviewed by the Editor of the Guardian on Sunday, Mr. Abraham Ogbodo.
