Zara, a motivational book on parenting, love, marriage and family, and aimed at mending broken relationships and homes, written by Sola Oguche Agudah, speaker and coach, was recently launched in Lagos. It is published by West Bow Press in the U.S. and reprinted in Nigeria by Terra Nova Limited.

According to the author, Agudah, who started writing since she was a child, “Zara is a fictional account of a young lady who makes wrong choices, but ends up finding love, joy and purpose. It’s a romantic book that hits the right chord with a lot of womenfolk and young adults.”

Agudah, who takes pleasure in relationships and parenting counselling, also has a weekly column in Businessday newspaper, where she pens her thoughts on parenting in the 21st century.

One of the highlights of the launch was a short skit of a section of Zara, performed by budding actors. There was also a limousine tour and branded with Zara paraphernalia and driven around Lagos to the major bookstores that will stock the book. The bookstores include Laterna Ventures, the Hub Media store, Terra Culture and Pattabah bookstores. The book was given out free to lucky booklovers at the event.

Partners at the launch included brands such as Zarron, Mobos, Lily Gate Hotel, Pine Tree Organisation, Jeff and O Brien and Natanel Florens, as well as a non-governmental organisation, Genesis House

Percentage of proceeds from the launch went to assist commercial sex workers off the streets, rehabilitate them and reintegrate them into society.

It is the expectation of Agudah that her writing would entertain, inspire and transform individuals and the society at large. She also used the occasion to launch her pet initiative, Make Your life Count (MYLC), with the mission to inspire, equip and empower individuals to live a life of purpose and impact. The initiative is envisioned to build wholesome marriages and groom children to make meaningful impact in the world. She would provide tools and resources like training programmes, books, documentaries and movies.

Agudah said she was inspired to write Zara out of her passion to build marriages in view of increasing rates of divorces in society.

According to the CEO Mobos, Mobo Biobak, “Zara is a book that covers every aspect in life and is very practical”.

Chinonso Young said, “I found Zara to be a very compelling story. I had to read the book twice and now my sisters have hijacked the book from me! It’s a must read”.
