The NECA Network of Entrepreneurial Women (NNEW) has said that organisations require extra patience to get the best out of new generation employees, otherwise known as the milliner’s worker.

Former Managing Director of Cadbury Plc and Managing Consultant, Open Wells Limited, Bunmi Oni, at the NNEW GEMs roundtable programme, said there was the need for employers to have a proper understanding of the Milliners generation that their own time was different form Generation X.

His words: “Working with the young minds, there is need for Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) to let go a bit of their pride in order to achieve the best out of the employees for the organisations.

“Milliners want to grow so fast. Gone is the era of long-term employment because the youths are young and agile. So they tend not want to stay long at one workplace, instead they want to move around and gather ideas and boost their profiles”.

He said the new generation worker want a coach, not a boss and they are not interested in paying their dues but want things to be done fast enough without patience, stressing that it was now the duty of the employer to take out time to study the workers and make them useful to the workplace.

“Employers of labour must have realise that leadership is like leading people where they have not been to or heard before. The employers need to be ready to relate with their workers and have time out to think and be more creative with the staff.

”In business, the employer must learn to direct people towards the organisation’s direction, goals and vision. The vision statement has a lot to do with the business and must be in right connection with the business,” he added.

He said employees want their careers in organsations with good mindset, not just demanding from employer what they are not willing to give. “This is because, the workplace is changing fast and CEO’S need to change to the things that engage the interest of the milliners generation to get the best out of them,” he said. Also speaking, President, NNEW, Modupe Oyekunle, urged employers and employees to be productive enough to help the economy recover fast from recession.
