Safety institute elects new executive

The Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISE), a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) recently elected its national executive committee members with Engr. Biodun Oyedepo (FNSE) emerging as national chairman.

Other elected officers are Emeasoba Azuka (FNSE), deputy national chairman; Engr. Martin Agbili (MNSE), national vice chairman; AkaninKene Ekong (MNSE), national vice chairman; Oluseun Faluyi (MNSE), national vice chairman; Oludotun Majekodunmi (FNSE), national general-secretary; Omoefe Abokitia (MNSE), assistant national General-Secretary; Dr. (Mrs) Kosisochukwu Nwaoko (FNSE), national treasurer; Prisca Kanebi (MNSE), national financial secretary; Dave Nwosu (MNSE), national technical eecretary; Mr. Otasanya Ekundayo Deinmabo, assistant national Technical Secretary; Mr. Ita Enebong (MNSE), national publicity secretary; O.A Ojurongbe (MNSE), ex-officio; Peter Onyeri (MNSE), ex-officio; and Samuel Shokunbi (MNSE), ex-officio.

In his remark, Oyedepo said the body was not formed to rival other safety bodies and agencies, saying, “It would rather collaborate with other relevant safety bodies to improve safety in the country and ensure preventable disasters caused by incessant fire, flooding
and building collapse across the country are reduced drastically to the barest minimum.”

While congratulating the new executive members, Oyedepo urged them to be dedicated and fully committed to the cardinal goal of the institution, which according to him is safety.

According t him, “Safety is first and foremost embedded in engineering, which makes the establishment of the institution a significant step in preventing disaster in the country.

He stated further that NISE was opened to engineers but that those who were not registered engineers but are involved in safety were also welcome into the institution as associate members.”
