The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru, Jos, has commenced a two-day capacity training workshop for newly elected Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) officials.

Speaking at the event, which was organised by the Political Parties Leadership and Policy Development Centre (PPLPDC) in Jos, the Acting Director-General of NIPSS, Mr. Jonathan Juma, said PPLPDC was established in 2013 with the objective to strengthen the leadership and organizational capacities of political parties as institutional foundation of Nigerian democracy.

According to him, the aim of establishing the body was also to ensure that they are policy oriented, responsive, inclusive and more accountable to their members and the society.

He pointed out that in 2014, the centre successfully trained different categories of leaders of all political parties at the national and state levels, adding that the centre also organized several conferences and dialogues on political parties and democracy in Nigeria.

Juma further stressed that the centre participated in 2015 general elections in observation status and subsequently followed up that role with a post 2015 election conference.

In his opening remarks, the national chairman of IPAC, Prof. Muhammad Lawal Nalado, said: “The organisation is working in close collaboration with INEC, NIPSS, EU, UNDP, IRI and other local and international organisation to carry out its mandate.”
