Senator Babakaka Bashir Garbai has said that the N3.18 billion constituency projects in Borno state will be completed to address unemployment, insecurity and water scarcity in Maiduguri metropolis.

He said water and skills acquisition centre projects in four communities have reached various completion stages for commissioning in June.Garbai disclosed this recently in Maiduguri after a guided tour of on-going constituency projects in Zannari, Bulabulin,Bulabulin/Ngarnan and 777 housing units

He said the siting of projects in affected communities was based on the people’s priority of demands to overcome challenges of unemployment, insecurity and water scarcity that lingered for over a decade.

His words: “The Skills Acquisition Centre at Bulabulin-Ngarnam was to address army of unemployed youths and women. This training centre, with a capacity of 500 trainees per batch, is a platform where they will be fully engaged and improve on their living conditions. The unemployed are to commence picking up their lives, with the distribution of starter packs, after nine-year Boko Haram insurgency that claimed many lives and property in Borno Central Senatorial District.”

According to him, the centre, which is under Small and Medium Entrepreneurial Development Agency (SMEDA), would train youths and women in six skills. The skills include tailoring, soap making, carpentry, welding, GSM/Computer and Information Communication Technology (ICT).

Garbai, who represents Borno central senatorial district at the
National Assembly said besides skills acquisition centre, three blocks of two classrooms in Gwange two and four and 777 housing estate would be completed for commissioning next month.

He further disclosed that other constituency projects that had been awarded for completion include N120 million Maiduguri Trauma Centre and the perimeter fencing of University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) at the cost N2.6billion.
