Huawei Technologies is partnering with the Federal Government to upscale the IT skills of Nigerians in order to make them self-reliant.Huawei Senior Energy Solutions Expert (Nigeria Enterprise Business Department), Samuel Orji, who disclosed this during an interview at a summit in Abuja, said the firm has established two training centres in Lagos and Abuja where it is building the capacity of Nigerians, adding that Huawei has been able to come up with problems and solutions that have helped not only the oil and gas sector, but also the entire ICT world.

Orji observed that Huawei has the ability to provide higher safety and efficiency for the oil and gas industry through its various innovative products. He said: “We are involved in the entire value chain from the upstream to mainstream to the downstream and to what we call the enterprise ‘informatisation’. Within the upstream sector, we are bringing in digital oil field where visualisation of system of operation is possible.

This means you are able to know what is being produced. One of the biggest challenges we have today is the inability to know what is produced in the oil sector, which we now have technology to do that. Also, on the refinery, we have the wireless system where we are able to deliver for high efficiency. Today we are talking about modular refineries and very soon Nigeria will have many modular refineries and we need technology to drive the efficiency.”

He further noted that Huawei has built a strong eco-system with some global partners to deliver high-end innovative solutions in line with customers needs and expectations and now have the joint innovation centres and open lab in Lagos where the firm jointly design innovations that are tailored to customers’ needs.

Speaking at the send forth ceremony for the beneficiaries in Abuja, Enelamah said the future belongs to the younger generation and that the beneficiaries must leverage on opportunity given to them to develop themselves in the ICT industry.

Enelamah expressed government’s appreciation to Huawei Technologies for partnering with the Ministry in the area of human, institutional capacity development and also in promoting technological innovation, knowledge transfer and ICT infrastructure development.

He noted that Nigeria and China have a mutually beneficial relationship, which is being nurtured adding that China-Nigeria relationship is beneficial to the Nigeria especially in the manufacturing industry.

In his remarks, Managing Director Huawei Technologies Company Nigeria Limited, Mr Liteng said: “Through the Seeds for Future and ICT academy, Huawei has tried to enhance knowledge transfer and talent growth in Nigeria.”

He further said that the sent forth ceremony was not only to see off Nigeria’s most outstanding ICT students to China for Seeds for the Future 2018, but also to plant seeds for a prosperous future enabled by ICT for the beloved country and for us all.
