Foundation to honour 200 change agents

MTN Foundation is to honour the 200 people that nominated various communities for intervention projects in the first phase of its “What Can We Do Together (WCWDT)” initiative.

Following their action, 200 communities had benefited from donations of transformers, school furniture, boreholes and household items to select orphanages with a view to improving lives.

The Foundation, according to a statement, had last September requested the public to nominate communities for projects that they feel very passionate about along the lines of providing basic amenities such as electricity, water, school furniture and donation of household items to orphanages. Over 36,000 nominations were received in the first phase of the programme and thereafter a verification exercise was conducted to determine the lucky 200 communities.

According to MTN Executive, Amina Oyagbola, “we are indeed very grateful for the opportunity given us to serve people and touch lives through this unique programme. We firmly believe that these initiatives will go a long way to positively impact the beneficiary communities in line with the Federal Government’s objectives to meet people’s needs and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in the country.”

She noted that in the first phase, “MTNF donated the following: furniture to 94 schools, 20 electricity transformers, 20 boreholes and different household items to 66 orphanages across 200 communities in the country. We also thank our partners who have enabled and ensured the careful deployment of the items across the country at the stipulated time.”

To the Foundation’s Executive Secretary, Nonny Ugboma, “it has been very fulfilling to see the smiles and cheers of people in the various communities we visited. We are happy to have worked with the various nominators who are change agents in their communities to positively impact lives and congratulate all the 200 nominators.”

Inspired by the success story thus far, MTNF has disclosed of its intention to launch the second phase of the project soon.
