Experts seek involvement of women, young people of capacity in leadership

The chairman, board of directors, First Bank of Nigeria, Ibikun Awosika has stressed the need to build a new generation of leaders with capacity in the country.

Ibikun said Christians and young people need to strategically decide on how to become valuable in the process of achieving the goal of building a right thinking leadership for the nation.

Speaking at Pastors and Leadership conference in Lagos recently, she described education as key, which needs to be applied in the political system.

“Where a certain part of the country is not educationally sound, but has put in place a strategic political development more than the others, we don’t seem to apply the education in the political system,” she noted.

She said a country like Nigeria where 40 years old constitute about 65% of its population, it presupposes that they hold the ace to political direction.

In a similar context, the founder of Rise Network, Toyosi Akerele Ogunsiji warned that women should not be neglected in politics as they are very powerful to determine the outcome of any elections and are known to be best leaders in the world.

While advocating the need to empower young people to begin so they can begin to think about making right choices and also determine outcome of elections, Ogunsiji blamed poverty, lack of vision and young people in politics for poor leadership.
