“After declaring a strike that apparently didn’t go down well with majority of the members, JOHESU strike enforcers invaded the public hospital and started beating up some of their members who were still working without prompting.”

Joint Health Sectors Union (JOHESU)

The Edo State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has chided the leadership of the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) over its alleged plans to frustrate the health sector.

It said the association plans to harass other health workers through constant strikes. State chairman of the NMA, Osaigbovo Emmanuel, stated this at a press briefing, alleging that one Ogorbo Ogobo said to be the wife of the leader of JOHESU at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), allegedly physically assaulted the Chairman, Medical Advisory Council (CMAC) of ISTH, Wilson Ovienria, while he was trying to restore normalcy in the hospital during the strike.

But when contacted, Ogobo denied the claims saying  “It is not true, The only thing that happened was on September 22, 2017 when Ovienria slapped me as the executive of JOHESU were going round to ascertain the level of compliance and also destroyed one of our phones”

But Osaigbovo said the public must be made aware of the unprofessional conduct of JOEHSU members, saying their conduct poses serious threat to the health sector in Edo State.

“This is not to determine the legality of the strike, but to say that when you declare a strike, as a responsible union, you are expected to have a convincing followership of your members.
