Delta automates attendance in primary schools, local councils

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) have announced the commencement of the implementation of an electronic attendance register for staff of local councils and local government education authorities across the state.

This is in a bid to enhance effective time management and accurate record keeping for the primary education sector and local government councils.

In a joint statement in Asaba, the state Chairman of ALGON, Constantine Ikpokpo and Chairman of SUBEB, Sunny Ogwu said the commencement of automated attendance register for councils staff and local government education authorities in the 25 council areas of the state was aimed at enhancing effective, accurate and timely record keeping.

“The introduction of the electronic clock-in system, which is in line with global best practice, is in continuation of the ongoing staff verification exercise in local councils and education authorities across the state.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the exercise is not intended to witch hunt or victimize either the primary school teachers or the councils’ staff,” the statement said.

It further stated that all staff are expected to clock-in with their fingerprints upon resumption and to clock-out at the close of work.

The statement urged all staff and stakeholders to abide by the directive and work closely with the relevant authorities towards the success of the system, with assurances of government’s sincerity and commitment.
