Govt promotes 896 workers in FAAN

THE Federal Government has approved the promotion of 896 workers of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), who qualified for promotion in 2009. They are billed to be promoted before the end of this month.

The affected officers from level 02 to 17 will be promoted after passing the interview to be conducted by the authority starting from next week. Already, letters of promotion are being dispatched to FAAN staff on Grade level 02-06, who are exempted from the promotion interview.

A further breakdown of the figure shows that 553 officers on Grade level 07-13 due for promotion in 2009 will be promoted after passing the promotion interview.

42 officers on Grade level 14-17 due for promotion in 2009 will also be promoted after passing the promotion interview.

Commenting on the exercise, FAAN’s Director of Administration, Mr. Adeniyi Ajakaiye said the authority has cleared the backlog of promotion for 2007 and 2008. He said all the qualified officers will be given their promotion letters before May 31, 2010.

He added that officers due for promotion in 2010 will be promoted before the end of the year. Ajakaiye disclosed further that the Authority has completed payment of 15 per cent salary arrears to staff. He stressed that FAAN was able to pay April salary to staff within the month.

He hinted that 83 Airport securities officers (AVSEC) that recently passed their 1, 2, and 3 training will soon be posted to airports across the country. Ajakaiye explained that over 2,000 workers of the authority were trained both locally and internationally in 2009.

According to him, 195 fire men of the Authority were equally trained for 12 weeks in 2009. He added that 95 were trained in Douala while 100 were trained in Lagos.

He disclosed that a total of 216 casual workers had their appointments regularised in 2009, while expressing optimism that the remaining 162 casual workers will have their appointments regularised before the end of the year.
