APC leaders allege plot to disrupt Ondo primaries

Ondo State governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa

• Stop raising conjectures, lies against Aiyedatiwa, supporters say
• Community, monarch, rally support for Akinterinwa

Some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ondo State chapter, at the weekend, raised the alarm over an alleged plot by some people to cause chaos within the party ahead of the primaries on April 20.

The party leaders, led by Adewale Ibraheem, who accused supporters of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of being behind the plot, said that the aim was to disrupt the primaries to prevent a shadow election from taking place.

Adewale, while speaking with journalists in Akure, the state capital, alleged that plans had been perfected to recruit thugs through the “Red-Beret” supporters in each of the councils of the state to achieve the purpose.

Meanwhile, the State Director of Information for Lucky Ayedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot-Soldiers (LACO-FS), Kayode Fasua, has described the allegations as false.

He said: “Yes, Aiyedatiwa is contesting the party’s next governorship ticket, but the enormous task before him does not give room for the conjecture of raising thugs or anything of the stuff. He is a busy man, one who closes work at 1:00 a.m. and resumes at 8: 00 a.m.

“Therefore, desperadoes within the APC should re-address themselves and give vent to party rules and regulations by stopping mudslinging the governor in the belief that he is a simple man and can’t do anything.”

IN another development, residents and indigenes of Ile-Oluji, Headquarters of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Council of Ondo State, at the weekend, agreed to back their son, Wale Akinterinwa.

The people, who trooped out en-masse during a town hall meeting and a rally across the community to support Akinterinwa to emerge as the standard-bearer of the party in the April 20 primaries, said that he is equipped to lead the state as governor.

The traditional ruler of the community, the Jegun of Ile-Oluji Kingdom, Oba Oluwole Adetimehin, who received the crowd in his palace, stated that the community’s decision to pay allegiance to the governorship ambition of Akinterinwa was due to his capability to move the state forward.

Also, Demola Akinbola, who spoke at the rally, said that the Ile-Oluji-born governorship aspirant and financial expert is qualified to lead the state as governor.

On his part, the Aro of Ile-Oluji Kingdom, Sola Akinfemiwa, who dismissed the insinuation that Ile-Oluji does not belong to the southern senatorial district, said: “That is not true as the structures of the state are there.
