Already, about five aspirants are planning to actualise their political ambition on the platform of the party, with Afam Ezenwafor as the first aspirant to declare intent to run the race.
Ezenwafor, who spoke with party faithful and stakeholders in Awka, the state capital, yesterday, when he declared for the governorship race under Patrick Obianyo-led state ADC, promised that his emergence would end the spectre of anti-people and recycled leadership syndrome in the state.
He said that he joined the race to liberate Anambra State and Igbo nation, stressing: “Any day the Igbo nation gets it right, Africa will be free.”
He said his preference for ADC was due to the fact that the party had been destined to take-over power in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the party’s leader and former senatorial candidate for Anambra Central Zone, Tony-Uche Ezekwelu, welcomed Ezenwafor who, he noted, took the giant step to first declare his intention.
He said that the party would not reserve the ticket for any contestant who would want to use its platform as Plan B after failing to secure another party’s ticket.
He said ADC had zoned the ticket to Anambra South, a decision that saw the party harmonising some positions ahead of the party’s congress next month.
Earlier, the state chairman of the party, Obianyo, assured that the party leadership at the national level and that of the state executive would provide a level-playing ground for all aspirants.
Obianyo said that ADC preferred to have a dynamic, energetic, vibrant, youthful, and useful candidate to emerge as governor rather than a recycled and spent-out element.
