Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Donatus Nwankpa, has urged senators to undertake their national assignments with maturity, seriousness, respect and decorum.
He said that the Senate should not be a dumping ground for imbecility, but for matured persons.
Nwankpa spoke at the state’s APC office in Umuahia while reacting to the reported verbal exchange between the Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe (PDP, Abia South) and Senator Smart Adeyemi (APC, Kogi West) during plenary.
Adeyemi was said to have called Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia a drunkard, in reaction to the remarks by Abaribe allegedly against Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
According to him, Adeyemi and Abaribe left their responsibility as lawmakers and engaged in banters that they carried too far.
His words: “The people of Abia are not quarreling with Adeyemi.
Ikpeazu is not quarrelling with Adeyemi. What happened was that Senators Adeyemi and Abaribe left their responsibility as lawmakers and were engaging in banters, which they carried too far.
“I think we should call these two gentlemen to order to live up to the responsibility that sent them to the red chamber. They cracked jokes, but then can Adeyemi prove where he has seen our governor drink? Then, what about the Kogi people? Then check the alcohol consumption between Abia and Kogi.”
Nwankpa, a two-term member of Abia House of Assembly and Commissioner for Housing, also debunked two online news reports concerning top members of the APC.
