43,350 passports ready for collection, says Immigration

Not less than 43, 350 passport are ready for collection across the country, according to the Nigeria Immigration Service(NIS).

The Service said it’s working on the template of the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola to radically transform service efficiency within the agencies under the ministry.

In furtherance to the Ministerial directives to clear up all backlog of Passport applications across issuing centres, the Comptroller General of Immigration Service (CGI), Muhammad Babandede has said the service has made significant progress in the clearance exercise of backlog of passport applications.

It stated that it has began a process to ensure that all backlogs of passport are completely sorted out and over 40,000 of passports ready and yet to be collected have been published on the NIS website.

These passports that are ready for collection are from the 230,550 passport applications processed following the directive of the minister to the agency to clear all black logs. Members of the public whose passports are with NIS are now advised to visit the NIS website.

So far a total number of 230,500 applications have been cleared. Out of this, a total number of 43,350 are yet to be collected. Passport control officers have continue to send out short message notifications for collection to all applicants who indicated functional contact details/numbers in their applications while efforts have been intensified to clear up the remaining applications in Centres.

A total number of 14,000 passports are yet to be collected in Ikoyi alone, 6, 212 in Alausa, 1,403 in Ondo State, 580 in Festac, 2,145 in Osun State, 233 in Imo State, and others
