26-year-old nabbed with 407 wraps of hard drugs in Lagos

Security operatives have arrested a suspected drug peddler, Ikechukwu Michael, 26, in Lagos. Michael was arrested with 407 wraps of Arizona, on Monday, June 17, at about 5:15 p.m.

Spokesperson for Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest, said the police got information about the movement of drugs in the Ojo area of Lagos State and dispatched a team of detectives who raced to the scene.

“The exhibits were recovered to the police station and a preliminary investigation is ongoing,” he said.

MEANWHILE, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, has introduced permanent phone numbers for Area Commands and strategic officers to improve security in the state.

According to Hundeyin, the fresh move phases out the old era where the personal phone numbers of these officers were used for official communications.

He said: “With the new arrangement, numbers remain permanently attached to particular offices, such that with the redeployment of the occupants of such officers, the phone numbers remain the same.

“The CP has taken this step to provide improved access, quicker response time and enhanced communication for the good people of Lagos State.”

He added: “CP Fayoade equally commends the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Lagos State Command, under the leadership of Apostle Kehinde Showemimo, for magnanimously providing desktop phones to all police divisions within the state for use of the newly introduced phone lines.

“The CP noted that this gesture will go a long way in consolidating the commitment of the command in engaging with communities and creating a safer environment for everyone in the state.’
